Made it past the next hurdle

I made it through the first round of interviews for the AM - I'm in the second round!

I am pleased, despite it meaning that I'll have to do assessments again, and the fact that I don't really like people.  As always, I sold myself on the role so that I could sell myself to the panel... So now I want it.

I had a bit of an epiphany the other week - I don't like the prospect of dealing with people, and if given the choice, I will always avoid it.  BUT when I'm in the moment I am good at it.  It is a talent, really, and should not be ignored just because sometimes it troubles me or is difficult.  There have been many, many more times that I've been able to coax, cajole, persuade and lead to great effect - the CPMS and Hospira as well as my teeny little team here.  I think it's a fitness thing - if I can just get my people-fitness up there I'll be ok.

And I don't do so well if I'm not around people.  I begin to invent situations and talk to invisible people as I work through the idea or situation.  That's ok, IF I am going to actually go into the situation and need to know what I think... but if it's never going to happen, it's a waste of time, life, effort and thought.

This week I'm negotiating a split in work tasks within the team - with the team's support I think, but directly against Tracy's wishes.  She wants everyone to be multi-skilled, but it just can't happen like that for the higher workload this year.  Off to talk to Jo about it, then Tracy, then the group in a formal meeting on Wednesday... I can do this.  And I can do the AM.  I just have to convince the panel.
